After earning her J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law in 1999, Janet Bergstrom began her career as a Deputy Prosecutor in King County. For nearly a decade, she built cases against defendants charged with DUI, drug offenses, assault, and violent crimes. She learned — intimately — how prosecutors decide who to charge, how to build a case, and where cases can fall apart.
In 2008, Janet made the move that defines her practice. She crossed the aisle and opened Bergstrom Criminal Defense. Her motivation was simple: she had seen too many people crushed by a system designed to maximize convictions, represented by overwhelmed defenders without the time or resources to dig into the details that matter.
Today, Janet is recognized by SuperLawyers as one of Washington's Top 100 criminal defense attorneys — a distinction based on peer recognition and professional achievement. She limits her caseload deliberately to ensure every client gets the attention their case deserves.
